My eyes teared up, and I looked back at the house I grew up in. The time seemed to stop…my heavy bag weightless under the drenching memories. I was about to run away with the boy I loved, about to leave my old mother alone, about to abandon her.

A voice spoke, “Did she leave you when you were a baby in her arms, when she could have lived her life the way she wanted?”
